It was a picture perfect day for this past weekend’s “Small Business Saturday” on Main Street in Clarence. Many of the retailers we spoke to proclaimed it to be their most active-ever Saturday after Black Friday.

For a first-time effort, “Small Business Saturday” received very positive participation from both consumers and Main Street businesses. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, close to 50 passports were distributed from the registration table at Goodrich Coffee & Tea. Guests who arrived between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. were treated to free coffee from Goodrich Coffee & Tea. Shoppers were encouraged to visit six Main Street locations or more to get their passport stamped (no purchase necessary). They were then instructed to turn their passports in for a $500 Main Street Experience gift basket drawing. The 5:00 p.m. prize drawing was won by Deidre O’Mahony of Clarence.

When the shoppers returned to the registration booth to turn in their passports, many talked about what a wonderful time they had exploring and supporting Main Street businesses. For some, it was a wonderful day bonding with family members and loved ones. We also had several comments from participants about stepping inside some of these locations for the first time.
The event was supported by staffs from The Clarence Sun and Stephen Development.
