Discover the Music on Main Street

Another Tuesday is upon us. Residents of Clarence will again be looking forward to the end of their shifts and the start of another Tuesday Bluesday at Murphy Browns. With so much stress from the oncoming of holiday shopping, what better way is there to relax than with a Great Lakes Winter Ale over a few laughs amongst family and friends than amid the hum of a s_streetGibson Les Paul singing its soulful phrases on top of local percussion free agent Shannon Street’s masterful rhythm?

A house of blues in our community has brought a wonderful culture back to the residents of Clarence, and for that we graciously thank the owners Drew and Ren’ee Brown of Murphy Brown’s.

Wednesday nights are now the home of our Penny Lane Café Open Mic night.

Since its inception last fall, Penny Lane has arguably had the best open mic night on Main Street. Now, with Keith Shuskie taking the reigns as host, musicians and patrons alike have found a revamped energy. Step out and catch the next big act to surprise us with their seemingly endless talents, and remember Wednesday is the new Thursday.

To describe the PLC open-mic experience: one rwiiiminute you’re drinking coffee listening to a solo acoustic Bob Dylan cover, and the next minute an assemblage of fiddle, banjo, bass, and cajun players take the stage with energy packed originals inspiring dancing, cheering, and applause across the café. Penny Lane Café is a place for music lovers, and you’ll also find Davey-O and Redwood Trio this weekend also! Details are provided below.

Finally, we announce our weekly featured musician. Every week we find a local musician to place on display for our readers. This lewi_cjpgmusician often has a great personality, an impressive musical ability, and a history of contribution to our community. The week we name jazz trumpet virtuoso Lew Custode of The Barroom Buzzards. Lew has been playing jazz trumpet since a very young age, and has a resume a mile long. His highest praises are from private parties where he has the ability to create an ambiance in the room worth triple the cost of admission. His discography ranges from New Orleans Dixieland to Disney’s “Bare Necessities” to “With a Wink and a Smile”. This week you can experience Lew Custode at the critically acclaimed jazz brunch at The Hollow Bistro and Brew with his jazz duo Custode & Parisi.
