Happy New Year from us at Discover Main Street! In today’s music column we have a special lineup of events to inform you about. Whether its a guitar virtuoso or a jazz concerto Main street in Clarence has what you’re looking for!
Maria Sebastian and Ron Davis bring a delightful jazz brunch to The Hollow Bistro this Saturday between 11:30am and 1:30 pm. This elegant monthly first Saturday tradition has been a huge hit to the music scene. With the popular revival of past genres like Jazz or Blues in compensation for the lack of tasteful modern day music, Maria and Ron bring a much needed element of musicianship and class in this Jazz brunch whereas we heavily encourage your patronage.
Penny Lane Cafe has all of your local live music needs met this week with their weekly Open Mic Wednesday nights as well as Julian Burgio this Friday followed by The K-Gun Band Saturday. Finding live music venues for a night out can be exceedingly difficult as business owners have to consider the costs of hiring the musician versus earning a profit on sales. Penny Lane has done a sensation-able job in managing this feat. They continue to provide our community with top notch musical talent, and a world class artistic atmosphere. Penny Lane Cafe may be the single greatest catalyst in the resurrection in live music to the local scene, and for that we are incredibly grateful.
Our musician of the week is the guitar virtuoso, Ron LoCurto! When the name Ron LoCurto is mentioned, whispers of his legendary performances scatter amongst the crowd. Many musicians get lost in a particular style or sound, and have limitations in their own diversity. Ron has perhaps the most spectacular ability to break free of these limitations in his ability to vocalize his lead over any style with a never repeating phrase. Every lick is unrehearsed and original as if the guitar were an extension of his body. This expertise of guitar play is unmatched and unique. Main Street has discovered Ron LoCurto, and you can catch his unparalleled performance tonight at Murphy Brown’s with AppleJack Blues.
One sad note for Main Street Music – Nashvilles II announced via Facebook that it’s closing its doors. The club’s Facebook page and website are no longer available, but the announcement is still available on WYRK’s website. According to the announcement, “Unfortunately the scope of our vision for the club exceeded the reality of making it come to fruition.” Sad to see Nashvilles II struggle to make a go of one of the area’s longtime premiere venues. Hopefully the club will be back open soon under new management.
