There’s nothing like an early fall group ride, and Discover Main Street is once again teaming up with the crew from Slow Roll Buffalo for a Bike Stampede showcasing our Clarence neighborhoods. Our summer slow roll event drew over 500 cyclists for a fun ride at a party pace, a bit longer and faster than the Monday night rolls that attract thousands in the City of Buffalo.
The Clarence Bike Stampede is a FREE EVENT presented by Slow Roll Buffalo and Discover Main Street, and will give cyclists a look at some uniquely Clarence scenery and neighborhoods while continuing to build community support for a bike-friendly Main Street. The Ride starts and ends at West Shore Brewing Company, 10995 Main Street in Clarence near Antique World.
If you’re a regular Slow Roller, like hundreds of area residents that make the trek into the city every Monday evening to Slow Roll through Buffalo neighborhoods, you may already be planning to ride. If so, you most of what you need to already, but read on for parking and other tips. If not, we’ve got the 411 for you all right here.
1. What is a Bike Stampede?
A Saturday “Bike Stampede” is a version of the Monday Slow Roll that takes place in the suburbs. This is going to be a fun group bike ride at a party pace, a bit longer than a Monday night roll. We’ll be following traffic laws and riding in support of a bike-friendly Main Street, and we’ll also feature some uniquely Clarence neighborhoods and scenery.
2. How many riders do you expect?
While rides in the City are drawing thousands, don’t expect to see that many here in Clarence. Good weather should bring out several hundred riders, which gives all the fun of a large group ride and allows the ride to move a bit more smoothly.
3. When should we arrive?
Plan to come at 2pm. That gives you a chance to relax, do a quick check of your bike, get something to eat and drink and relax to the music of String Theory, who will be providing the pre-roll entertainment. Tom’s Pro Bike will be on hand for air and “A-B-C” checks. The ride starts promptly at 3pm.
4. Where should I park?
West Shore Brewing company is located at 10995 Main Street, near the corner of Davison Road and next door to antique world. Thanks to Antique World, we will have plenty of parking available directly adjacent to the brewery. Tip of the hat to you Kelly Schultz!
5. What should I expect during the ride?
The ride will proceed at a “party pace,” which most riders should be able to keep with no difficulty. The West Hill of Clarence Hollow along Main Street will provide an early climb, but most of the rest of the ride will be descents, with a couple of more gentle inclines along the way, If you’re a bit slower, you will want to start at the front of the ride, while stronger riders should start towards the rear. Orange-shirted volunteers from Slow Roll Buffalo’s Squad will be managing the ride to keep the ride together, help riders avoid hazards and help keep everyone on the planned route. Please remember that we are riding along with traffic laws and we will encounter motorists along the way. You should listen to and follow instructions from Squad volunteers – they are there to help make your ride safe and enjoyable.
6. What’s planned for the afterparty?
Eating, drinking and dancing. We’ll have BBQ from Smoke, Fire & Spice and J & L’s Blvd BBQ, lighter fare from The Salad Bar Truck, a super-special IPA release from West Shore Brewing Company and live music from The Donnellys cranking it up until 7pm.
