Our 2018 Ride Series continues when we meet up at 2pm on August 25th as Discover Main Street Partners with Slow Roll Buffalo for another fun, FREE and inclusive event, the Saturday Bike Stampede hosted at Brennan’s Bowery Bar, 4401 Transit Road at Main.

A Saturday Bike Stampede is a version of the Monday Slow Roll that takes place in the suburbs. This is going to be a fun group bike ride at a party pace, a bit longer than a Monday night roll. We’ll be following traffic laws while showing community support for a bike-friendly Main Street, and we’ll also feature some uniquely Clarence neighborhoods and scenery.
Brennan’s will be serving up food to order from the Bowery Patio Grill, and harmonica phenom Noah Moses will be performing live from the patio during the event. There will be plenty of craft beer on hand, including featured selections from Thin Man Brewery and Main Street’s very own West Shore Brewing Company.
If you prefer something a bit more substantial, a full dinner menu, fully stocked bar and the legendary Brennan’s hospitality will await you inside.
As with all of our Ride series events, the Bike Stampede will feature Kickstand Kolsch – an easy-drinking beer brewed by West Shore for Discover Main Street. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of Kickstand Kolsch will help fund future FREE bike events and bike infrastructure as we continue to promote a bike-friendly Main Street. If craft beer is your thing, we hope you will give Kickstand Kolsch a try.
The Brennan’s Bike Stampede is the second of three planned rides in partnership with Slow Roll. Last month we kicked the series off at Murphy Brown’s with a pedal party. The weather was great, the beer was flowing and over 500 cyclists from all over Western New York converged on Clarence for the first event of what is now the largest Slow Roll series outside the City of Buffalo.
Outside of a fun, free and healthy outdoor activity, the continued strong turnouts at these events are a key indication of community support for a bike-friendly Main Street. And local and state governments are listening.
After last year’s events, the Town of Clarence subsequently adopted the Vision: Main Street plan that includes bike lanes along the entire length of Main Street. This fall, the first three miles of lanes will be installed by New York State DOT from Transit Road to Sheridan Drive. Bike lanes are also expected to be a part of next year’s micro-paving project planned for Sheridan Drive from Transit Road to Main Street.
With it’s large capacity, virtually unlimited parking and shorter distance to Amherst and Buffalo, the Brennan’s Bike Stampede could be our largest ride yet.
Even so, it will be still be much smaller than the Monday night rides in the City of Buffalo that routinely draw well over a thousand riders. The result will be all the fun of a group ride at a size well-suited to move smoothly along the ride. Orange-shirted volunteers from Slow Roll Buffalo’s Squad will be managing the ride to keep the ride together, help riders avoid hazards and help keep everyone on the planned route.
Looking ahead, we’ll have one last Bike Stampede coming up to close the series out. We’ll be returning to West Shore Brewing Company on Saturday September 22nd.
